The Hörby solar park lies between Sölvesborg and Mjällby in Blekinge and was inaugurated in autumn 2023. It is expected to produce around 19 million kWh a year, the electricity use of about 3,800 houses.
Bidding zone SE4, where the park is, is one of the two zones in Sweden with the highest demand for electricity and the highest prices. Southern Sweden has a large production deficit, and the park adds much-needed renewable, locally produced power.
A long-term fixed-price agreement
Vida buys the power via the electricity company Bixia through a long-term fixed-price agreement, a PPA. Bixia and Vida have worked together on electricity trading since 2014, and the long-term partnership made the new solar park possible.
“Like us, the Vida sawmill group has high levels of ambition when it comes to the climate area. That’s why we’re delighted to collaborate with them to expand solar power capacity in southern Sweden, where the need is greatest. Locally produced renewable energy is key to the green transition,” says Magnus Reitersjö, Bixia’s Deputy CEO.
Forest, sawmills and sun
Vida is a global supplier of processed products from Swedish forests. The forest captures carbon dioxide, and the group produces emission-neutral energy from the sawmills’ by-products. Solar power from Hörby is the next step in the same work.
Preserving biodiversity in the area matters. At the inauguration, Vida was looking into whether sheep could graze in the park during the summer.
